Role & Responsibilities

As a Professional Chef / Cook in Vancouver, Canada, you will play a crucial role in delivering an exceptional dining experience to hotel guests, restaurant patrons, and event attendees. Your primary responsibility is to prepare and cook meals that are not only delicious but also visually appealing, safe, and compliant with health standards. You will also manage kitchen operations, supervise junior staff, and contribute to menu planning and cost management.

Key Responsibilities – Detailed

  1. Meal Preparation & Cooking
    • Prepare and cook meals according to menus, standardized recipes, and customer preferences.
    • Ensure meals are cooked to perfection, maintaining flavor, texture, and presentation standards.
    • Adapt recipes as needed for dietary restrictions, allergies, or special requests.
  2. Kitchen Management & Staff Coordination
    • Supervise and coordinate the workflow of kitchen staff including sous chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants.
    • Assign duties and monitor performance to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior chefs to improve their skills.
  3. Inventory & Stock Management
    • Order, receive, and manage ingredients, ensuring freshness and quality.
    • Track inventory levels to prevent shortages or excess wastage.
    • Manage storage according to food safety standards and rotation of stock (FIFO method).
  4. Hygiene & Safety Compliance
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all kitchen areas, including workstations, storage, and cooking equipment.

    • Monitor kitchen safety to prevent accidents, burns, or contamination.
  5. Cost Control & Waste Management
    • Monitor food costs and ensure meals are prepared within budget.

  6. Menu Planning & Special Events
    • Collaborate with management to plan menus for daily service, special events, and seasonal offerings.
